What is Abdominoplasty?

Also known as ‘tummy tuck’, Abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure that removes fat and excess skin from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.

The result is a flatter abdomen and sometimes a smaller waist.

How long is the procedure?

2-5 hours, depending on the area to be treated.

After the procedure:

• Avoid straining, bending and lifting for 4-6 weeks
• Sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees until pain subsides
• Try to take short walks a day after surgery to promote blood circulation

• Resume mild exercise after 3 weeks
• Stop smoking
• You can return to work within 2-4 weeks
• There is no diet restriction, however, do eat more fruits and vegetables as they are rich in Vitamin C. Thus, enhances wound healing.
• Keep all dressing to wound dry and intact.
• Keep support garment on for 3 weeks

Are there any side effects?

All surgeries carry some form of risk. Some of the side effects include:

• The abdomen may feel slightly swollen.
• There will be a sensation of skin pulling and altered tenderness in the affected area, which will disappear within a few weeks.
• Bruising of Skin
• Numbness

How soon can I expect to see the effects?

After time is allowed for healing to occur, the effect is obvious.
